On April 12,A  Nigerian unemployed graduate Mr Imudia Uduehi and wife welcomed a set of quintuplet .His wife instantly called on the Nigerian governments and other individuals to come to their assistance .
 It could be recalled that on Wednesday, April 12, Oluwakemi Funmilayo Aminu and her husband Imudia Uduehi welcomed a set of quintuplet and both mother and babies are doing very well. 4 News Information gathered that, following the cry of the new parents the Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita has assured to give a house to the couple in Abuja.

Oyo-Ita made the pledge while visiting the children on Saturday, April 22, in Abuja. She said that the house will be given under the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) Scheme.

She also promised Mr Imudia Uduehi, father of the quintuplets who is a graduate from the University of Ilorin, Kwara state a job with the Federal Civil Service. She described the children as great blessings given to the couple by God on a platter of gold. She said the job offer to Uduehi would allow him take care of the children, saying: “I am very happy for you and I am standing here this afternoon representing the entire civil service of Nigeria. Today is a day of joy for all of us. Indeed you are a couple that has been so blessed by God. You have been married for just two years and God has blessed you with five children at once. I want to tell you that the Federal Integrated Staff Housing programme will be made available to you, we will give you a house that can accommodate you , your husband and your five children.”

Oyo-Ita also made a cash donation and diapers to them. Mrs Oluwakemi Uduehi, mother of the children who spoke for her family thanked the HOS for her kind gesture.
She is a staff of the National Population Commission (NPC).

Two new miracle drugs to protect brain cells; keep diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's at bay

Scientists have found two new miracle drugs that can block the pathway leading to the death of brain cells and prevent neuro-degeneration

The study, comes as a follow up to an earlier research in mice where the team from the Medical Research Council [MRC] Toxicology Unit in Leicester had discovered that the ammassed misfold proteins in mice with prion disease over-activate a natural defence mechanism and switch off production of a protein that is essential to brain cells. In several neuro-degenrative diseases, the build-up of misfolded proteins is a key factor in diseases such as Alzheimer, Parkinson. and prion. The researchers tried substitution on of the protein production with an experimental drug but found it to be poisonous to the pancreas and unsuitable for humans.

Too much sleep may be sign of dementia, researchers say
For the new study, scientists tested 1,040 compound from the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke – first in worms as their functioning nervous system is a fitting experimental model, before administering it in mammals.  They found compounds that could be further tested in mouse models of prion disease and a form of familial tauopathy (frontotemporal dementia – FTD).


 Researchers Led by Professor Giovanna Mallucci then spotted two miracle drugs that had the ability to restore protein production in mice – trazodone hydrochloride (an anti-depressant) and dibernzoylmethane (a trial compound for anti-cancer drug). The experiments revealed that the drugs restored memory in mice with FTD and prevented symptoms of brain cell damage in most of the mice with prion disease. The drugs also decreased brain shrinkage in both mouse models. For humans, the drugs are already licensed to be used, making the study to be clinical-trial ready.

New Alzheimer’s drug compound ‘worth investigating’

“We know that trazodone is safe to use in humans, so a clinical trial is now possible to test whether the protective outcome of the drug we see on brain cells in mice with neurodegeneration is also applicable to people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. We could detect in two or three years whether this method can slow down disease growth, which would be a very thrilling first step in treating these disorders,” said Mallucci who is now based at the University of Cambridge.

Mallucci, one of the five associate directors of the UK Dementia Research Institute, said: “Interestingly, trazodone has been used to treat the signs of patients in later phases of dementia, so we know it is safe for this group. We now need to find out whether administering  the drug to patients at an early stage could help check or slow down the disease through its effects on this pathway.”

Apart from the grant by the MRC, the research was also financed by the Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation.

“We’re delighted by the potential of these discoveries. They show that a treatment approach originally detected in mice with prion disease might also work to prevent the death of brain cells in some forms of dementia. This research is at a very premature stage and has not yet been tested in people, but as one of the drugs is already available as a treatment for depression, the time taken to get from the lab to the pharmacy could be dramatically reduced,”  said the director of Research and Development at the Alzheimer’s Society, Dr Doug Brown.

Experts want special clinics to recommend ketamine as anti-depressant

The chief science officer at the MRC, Dr Rob Buckle said: “The study builds on previous work by this team and is a good example of how really ingenious discovery science can quite rapidly transfrom into the possibility of real drugs to treat disease.”

Speaking to a News source, Mallucci said it was time for “clinical trials to see if there are related effects in people and put our money where our mouth is”.

“We’re very unlikely to cure them totally, but if you arrest the progression you change Alzheimer’s disease into something completely different so it becomes liveable with,” she added.

Even though the drugs are certified and approved, Mallucci suggested that people should “wait for the results”.

Regarding his arrest by the UK police, the source confirmed that Musa had disagreements with his wife but never beat her.

Ahmed Musa’s decision to post the picture of the new lady on his Instagram page and calling her ‘my queen’ did not go down well with Jamila which led to their last heated quarrel.

Michigan Doctor Is Arrested and Accused of Genital Cutting of 2 Girls

A  doctor in Michigan,Jumana Nagarwala has been accused of performing genital cutting on two 7-year-old girls at a medical clinic, in a case that federal officials believe to be the first prosecution under a law banning the cruel practice.

The doctor,  44, was arrested on Wednesday on charges that she conducted the genital cutting at an unnamed medical clinic in Livonia, Mich.; transported minors with the intention to engage in criminal sexual activity; and lied to federal agents.

In line a criminal complaint filed in federal court on Wednesday, Dr. Nagarwala performed the procedure on two girls from Minnesota who traveled to the clinic with their parents in February. The complaint also said that multiple other girls, including some from Michigan, may have been preyed on between 2005 and 2007.

One of the girls told investigators that she thought she and the other girl had gone to the doctor because our tummies hurt. The other said the cutting procedure was so agonizing that she screamed and could barely walk afterward. She drew a picture of the room where the procedures were supposedly carried out, marking an “X” on the spot where she said she had bled on the examination table, according to the complaint.

“Dr. Nagarwala is alleged to have executed horrifying acts of brutality on the most vulnerable victims,” Kenneth A. Blanco, an acting assistant attorney general with the Justice Department’s criminal division, said in a statement on Thursday. “The Department of Justice is committed to putting an end to  female genital mutilation in this country, and will use the full power of the law to ensure that no girls suffer such physical and emotional abuse.”

Dr. Nagarwala appeared in court on Thursday and was remanded in jail until another hearing on Monday. The doctor’s lawyer, Shannon M. Smith, could not be reached by phone for comment on Thursday. According to the complaint, Dr. Nagarwala said she had never performed genital cutting on any children.

Dr. Nagarwala, who practices emergency medicine at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, is on administrative leave, said David Olejarz, a spokesman for the Henry Ford Health System.

“The alleged criminal activity did not occur at any Henry Ford facility,” he said in an email. “We would never support  anything related to this practice.”

Female genital cutting involves removing parts of the genitalia. The World Health Organization has documented the practice in 30 countries, most of them in Africa. The procedure, which is illegal in the United States, is typically performed on girls before they attain puberty and can lead to infections, childbirth complications or pain during urination or menstruation.

The World Health Organization estimates that worldwide, more than 200 million girls and women alive today have went through some form of genital cutting. A study last year by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention discovered that more than a half million women and girls were affected by, or at risk of, genital cutting in the United States in 2012.

Genital cutting has been illegal in the United States since 1996, but that law was amended in 2013 to ban what is sometimes referred to as vacation cutting,or transporting a girl overseas to carry out the procedure.

The Michigan case is noteworthy because it can help to raise awareness of an issue that often flies under the radar, said Shelby Quast of Equality Now, an international women’s rights advocacy organization.

She said people who might see evidence of genital cutting, such as teachers and health care providers, are not always aware of duties to report it. “We need better information about precisely where they are,” Ms. Quast said of practitioners of genital cutting. “We know that this is a child abuse issue, and we know that we need to commence training our child protection folks better.”

Facebook fails to remove reported extremist posts

The amount of posts that face book is allowing has been questionable for a long time

Facebook has  in many instances refused to remove dozens  of extremist and child pornography even after the social network’s moderators were rightly informed of the potentially illegal content.

Using a counterfeit  profile set up last month, a  journalist discovered images and videos praising Islamic State and recent deadly attacks in London and Egypt, along with graphic images of child abuse, and asked site moderators to remove them.

Facebook moderators took off some of reported images but didn't touch pro-jihadist posts extoling recent attacks and advocating  for new ones.

The company appeared to take action only after The said journalist identified itself as reporting a story on the matter.

Failure to remove content which is illegal under British law after company officials have been informed of its existence could expose Facebook to criminal prosecution for its part in encouraging the publication and distribution of such imagery.

The social media giant faces new laws in countries around the world to force it to move faster to fight illegal content but it has struggled to keep pace as unlawful posts can reappear as fast as they are identified and taken down.

A Facebook spokesman said the company had now removed all the images identified as possibly illegal, admitting that they violated their policies and have no place on Facebook.

 Facebook Vice President of Operations, Justin Osofsky said tendered apology in a statement on behalf of Facebook.

He said  that they can do better, and will continue to work hard to live up to the high callibre people rightly expected of Facebook.

A spokesman for London’s Metropolitan Police advised individuals to report extremist content to it via an online form.

It declined to comment on whether it was investigating if Facebook failed to act when informed of the unlawful content.

“Where material violates UK terrorism laws, the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit will, where possible, seek the removal of the content by working with the relevant internet hosting company,” the spokesman said.

It was exclusively reveal that the two male suicide bombers killed last night at the University of Maiduguri were halted by dogs from wreaking havoc on the academic community. News sources learnt that the incident happened at about 10.30pm local time behind the Chapel of Grace inside the university of Maiduguri.

"The bombers blew themselves up as soon as they spotted the dogs barking at them as they could no longer help the situation," a staff of the university, Abubakar Mohammed, said.

"They came in through the back door and were prepared to detonate the bombs before they were sighted by the dogs which stopped them from unleashing another mayhem on the university community,"  Mohammed further added.

A suicide bomber had secretly entered into the university campus in January and entered a mosque where Muslims were observing the early morning prayer, killing a professor and injuring several others.

Heavy gunfire discharged in the South Sudanese town of Wau on Monday, as residents said militias joined to the government were going house to house searching for people from other ethnic groups. Streets were uninhabited  and most locals remained inside.

Fighting since then has often break the oil-producing country along ethnic lines and created a patchwork of armed groups. The war in a territory already covered with weapons after decades of conflict has fuelled ethnic tensions over land, grazing grounds and long-running feuds.

Another resident said soldiers had blocked off a road leading to a civilian encampment protected by U.N. peacekeepers. More than 200,000 people have taken safety in such sites set up across the country after widespread ethnic killings and violence, many by soldiers. “We are aware of the situation in the town and we are looking into it,” U.N. spokesman Daniel Dickinson said.

At least no fewer than 20 people were killed when a boat carrying dosens of wedding guests clashed with a river barge in Western Myanmar, authorities said on Saturday in a news source, with more feared drowned as rescuers huntfor the missing. The boat, called “Silver Star” in Burmese, sank Friday evening in a river near Pathein, a port city west of commercial capital Yangon.

It was believed to be carrying around 60 passengers on their way home from a wedding ceremony, according to a local police officer's information. Of the dead, officials said 16 were women and four were men. “They were crossing to the other side of the river after attending a wedding in Pathein. Most of them were relatives from the same village,” said the policeman.

Both ships were unlit when they clashed in the middle of the river, he added. “We approximate nine people are still missing,” it was also gathered  that some 30 people had been rescued alive the night before. Local media photos revealed frenzied scenes as rescuers worked in the dark Friday night to wheel stretchers away from the river and lay bodies onshore.

 Authorities resumed the search operation on Friday morning, the police officer said, though no bodies had been found by midday. “We will do search and rescue for the whole day.”

Interior Ministry officials gave a shocking information of  three Palestinians who were hung in the Gaza Strip, on Thursday morning, by the Islamic Hamas movement after they were found guilty of cooperating with Israel.

The three,according to news source,are all inhabitants of Gaza, had been sentenced to death by a Hamas court a few months ago, the officials added.
Following  a statement, they were hanged before representatives of the Gaza community and “in accordance with the law”.

The  Thursday hangings were not related to the ongoing investigation into the assassination of senior Hamas official Mazen Fuqaha’a last month.

Since March, Hamas has clamped down on a key border crossing with Israel, the longest since it took over the coastal enclave a decade ago, while it looks into Fuqaha’a’s death, which the movement held Israel responsible for.

42-year-old Segun (surname withheld) who apparently got his only daughter pregnant (name with­held), a 16-year-old JSS 2 student in Ig­beti, Oyo State is now in prison custody for committing
the detestable act.

The information came from a reliable source that the vile story began on December 1, 2013 at Gboro compound, Igbeti, when the suspect was said to have asked the victim to come and live with him. Thirteen years earlier, he had separated from the victim's mother , who was about three then. After the split, the mother took custody of the victim and then remarried. later on, the victim began living with her father.

The news we gathered from the  Oyo State Commissioner of Police ,Mr Kola Sodipo, said  that on the fateful night, Segun demanded that the victim should take-off her clothes. She refused and attempted to escape. He threatened her with a machete and then raped and defiled her,unconcerned about the agonizing pain she felt, being a virgin.

The  father continued the evil act thereafter, and this caused the girl to report to her stepmother who lived in a different house but she didn’t take the matter seriously due to the shameful nature of the act.

Relating how her ordeal started and what happened after, the victim told News sources: “I was living with my mother until 2013 when my father asked me to come and live with him. On December 25, 2013 my father woke me up and asked me to remove my clothes but I refused. He drew a cutlass and threatened to kill me if I didn’t yield to his demand. I took-off my clothes and he forcefully raped me.
He was the first man to sleep with me because I had never had sex before then. I related the ugly
incident to one of his two wives who is a nurse and she promised to ask him but i don’t know whether she asked him or not.

“In March 2014, he repeated the same thing again and i ran to the house of his second wife and reported to her. She asked me to swear to an oath with the Bible but i refused since i knew i was speaking the truth. I started sleeping in her apartment. In April, he came and asked me to return to his apartment to do some things for him but i refused to go. His second wife, however, pressurized  me to answer my father’s call as he needed my attention at home. I followed him after much pressure.

“During Easter celebration on April 18, 2014 he had sex with me again. All this while i had no knowledge that i was pregnant because i had my last menstruation in December 2013.
My stepmother suspected that i was pregnant and took me to a clinic at Igbeti where a test revealed i was pregnant.”

News sources gathered that The matron of the clinic informed the victim’s grandfather that his son had impregnated his own  daughter. The suspect denied the allegation and began maltreating the
girl.

 Thereafter, the victim said: “The case was reported at the police station on April 30, 2014 and i started living with my paternal grand father. I was taken to General Hospital Igbeti, where my mother pleaded with the doctor to terminate the pregnancy, but the doctor said he would not do it. After i gave birth to  the baby and my grandmother was told the baby resemble my father and on hearing this information by my father ,he absconded.”

She explained further: “When the pregnancy was proven to be true, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) were the ones who purchased the baby clothes
and other  needed materials. They also foot the hospital bill. I am appealing to the public to come to my assistance and help me finish my education. I am in JSS 2.”

According to Sodipo, an ultrasound scan done on May 1, 2014 at Bethsaida Hospital revealed that the pregnancy had reached four months. The baby was delivered on September 16, 2014.

Sodipo futher told a News source that the Medical Director of  the General Hospital advised that DNA test should be carried out to ascertain the paternity of the child but said it could only be done after six month of the child's birth

In the course of investigation, the police were able to get hold of the suspect as News sources learnt from the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor, who also
confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

The suspect was later arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court at Kisi presided over by Chief Magistrate Usman Isiaku. He was afterwards remanded in Oyo Prison and the case adjourned to
October 24, 2014 for further hearing.

Tasek Gelugor,A member of Malaysian parliament, has said that girls as young as nine were
 “ spiritually and  physically” due for marriage.

He gave this information on Wednesday in reply to a    proposal by an opposition member of parliament to amend the Sexual Offences Against Children bill to include a ban on child marriages


Gelugor said: “They (girls) reach puberty at the age of nine or 12. And at that time, their body is already similar to them being 18 years old.

He further stated that it is not a stumbling block for the girl to marry.

According to him, under Islamic law  and civil law , girls and boys younger than 18 can be  joined in marriage.

A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday ordered the arrest of 24 year old cleaner, Olamide Balogun, ‎in prison for allegedly raping a 6-year-old girl.

The judge, Umar Kagarko, adjourned the case till June 15 for hearing.

The defendant who lives in Mabushi, Abuja, was arraigned on a count charge of rape, an offence he denied committing.

The prosecutor, Oyeyemi Adeniyi, told the court that one Loveth Abdul gave a detailed information of the incidence in  the Mabushi Police Station on Jan. 23.

He said the plaintiff noticed that the defendant had been having carnal knowledge of the 6 year old girl, whenever she was left alone in the house.

Mr. Adeniyi said that the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code.

The Niger State Government has ordered the re-trial of a man sentenced to one month detention for abduction and rape of a nine year old boy, who later died.

The accused, Nuhu Musa, 37, was sentenced to one month imprisonment with an option of N30, 000 fine by a Kontagora Magistrates’ Court for kidnap and rape of a minor.
The sad event occurred in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger.
Mr. Musa’s jail term ended on Tuesday.
The public relations officer of the Niger Police Command, Bala Elkana, said on Tuesday from a news report in Minna that further investigations would be carried out on the case, and that Mr. Musa would be charged with murder, rape and kidnap.

Mr. Elkana said Mr. Musa’s sentence was not equivalent to his offences, adding that the child eventually died as the information proves which was as a result of the  injuries he suffered from the rape.

Meanwhile, Mariam Kolo, Director-General of the Niger State Child Rights Protection Agency, said the child was abducted together with four other boys.
She said Mr. Musa had sex with the deceased and injured him severely.

Mrs. Kolo said the child was consequently taken to a hospital and an operation was carried on him but died the next day.
She said Mr. Musa was apprehended, charged to court and given a sentence of one month imprisonment on a two count charge.
She said Mr. Musa was sentenced to one month imprisonment on each of the counts of rape and abduction with an option of fine of N30,000.

The director-general said the agency had recommended Mr. Musa’s re-arrest and re-trial.
She said the state government had given the mother of the child a grinding machine and some money to start a business to console her.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s cabinet came to a unanimous conclusion, on Wednesday, to a new draft law for the singular purpose of banning child marriages.

The law stated by a reliable information, drawn up by Justice Minister Heiko Maas, puts the minimum age for marriage in Germany at 18 years.

About 1,500 minors with non-German backgrounds living in the country were registered as married at the end of July 2016, according to the Cologne-based Central Register of Foreign Nationals.
Under the new law all marriages of people under the age of 16 will be declared null and void.

The new rules also call on the courts to revoke any marriage when one of the couple was aged between 16 and 18 years at the time of the union.

The government also plans to extend the new rules to marriages that took place  outside of Germany.
Meanwhile, the authorities will consider not applying the law in specific cases of hardship, such as a severe and life-threatening illness.

The  national president of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN),Aminu Goronyo says a 50 kilogramme of rice will be sold at N10, 000 as from June 2017. While speaking on the recent development in the rice industry, he said rice which is being sold in Nigeria currently at the rate of N20,00 will start selling at half that price in three months’ time. The information reaching us is  that rice farmers under the association now have a direct access to fertilizer.

Fertilizer was a very big problem, but today is now a thing of the past. Aminu Goronyo said "We have signed MOU where the fertilizer is sold N5, 500 per bag of fertilizer, and is now a government policy. We have more fertilizers in the country and it  goes direct to the hands of the farmers which is available  everywhere in the country".

He said  that rice adequacy has already been achieved in the last two years because all the rice consumed are produced here in the country. With the government through the Nigeria Customs Service on the land borders, including the high exchange rate, no importer can go to other countries and import rice for profit.


Aminu Goronyo gave the assurance from a reliable  news source that 50kg of rice will be sold 10,000 naira in the next three months.
 He further stated that the Anchor Borrowers Scheme was conceived through collective effort by the Central Bank of Nigeria, RIFAN and other relevant key stakeholders, and they are  meeting everyday with the CBN  to analyze the process.

 he said however,that the association is faced with shortage of rice seeds. According to him, the association has over 4.2 million registered members and there are not sufficient quality seed to go round. He said that Seed is the most important component of any commodity that is going to be produced.

 Rice seeds is not available in Nigeria according to the  information disclosed  by Aminu Goronyo . He said that the  few companies  in the country do not have the capacity to supply the quality and guaranteed seeds that is  needed. What is available is grossly inadequate and not up to one percent that is needed by Nigerian farmers.

The research centres that are available are being paid but they are not doing what they are supposed to do because government depends on them to come up with certified seeds, and the  end users, the farmers,  know that they are not getting the real certified seed. Most of the seeds that are being supplied are from the companies that do not have all it takes. The seeds released are not up to five percent of the total requirement
